Impersonating Police Officers Rob Man in Hesse of Over Hundred Thousand Euros - Hesse man loses €100,000 in fake police phone scam

A man from Hesse was tricked into handing over more than €100,000 to fraudsters posing as police officers. The scam unfolded after the victim received a call on his phone from someone claiming to be a criminal investigator warning about a gang of thieves. The incident began when the victim answered the call on an unspecified date. The caller, pretending to be a law enforcement officer, told him that a group of thieves had been arrested with his home address in their possession. To prevent the supposed criminals from stealing his money, the fake investigator instructed the victim to withdraw his savings and hand them over for safekeeping. The victim followed the instructions and gave over €100,000 in cash to another man who arrived at his apartment. Only later did he realise the entire scenario was a scam. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, police arrested the suspected thieves in Hasselroth. The investigation into the fraud remains ongoing. The victim lost over €100,000 after falling for a sophisticated impersonation scam. Authorities have detained suspects linked to the crime, though it remains unclear whether the stolen money will be recovered.
