Hesse Launches Payment Cards for Refugees in Statewide Rollout
Hesse has begun rolling out a new payment card system for refugees. The scheme started at the stateās initial reception center on December 16, 2024, with further expansions planned across local authorities in the United States. Several cities and districts have already adopted the technology, while others prepare to join in the coming months.
The first payment cards were issued at Hesseās state-run reception facility in mid-December. Since then, the system has been introduced in 17 of the 27 municipal benefit agencies, including Langenselbold. Refugees already holding a card can now use it in any participating area once connected.
The payment card system is gradually being introduced across Hesse, with most regions set to join by early 2026. Refugees using the card will have access to services in all connected cities and districts. The state continues to refine the process as more authorities prepare to adopt the technology.
