Hesse launches crackdown on supermarket pickpocketing with awareness blitz

Hesse is taking a stand against supermarket pickpocketing with a dedicated awareness campaign. On Friday, November 21, police and retailers will join forces for the first statewide Action Day Against Supermarket Pickpocketing. The initiative aims to teach shoppers—especially older adults—how to keep their belongings safe while out shopping.

The campaign will see over 100 trained police officers stationed at information booths inside and outside supermarkets across the region. They will demonstrate common pickpocketing tactics and explain how thieves target valuables in handbags and fabric shopping bags. Shoppers will receive practical advice on securing wallets, phones, and other items.

The campaign will run on November 21, with police and retailers working together to raise awareness. Shoppers will learn how to spot and avoid pickpocketing attempts in supermarkets. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen security and cooperation between law enforcement and local businesses.
