Enhanced Police Presence During Carnival Days - Hesse Deploys Record 16,000 Officers to Secure Carnival Celebrations
Hesse's police force is stepping up patrols for the upcoming Carnival season. With celebrations set to run from February 12 to 18, authorities are focusing on safety across parades and street events. Over 16,000 officersâthe highest number everâwill be deployed to ensure order.
Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) has teamed up with event organisers to ensure a secure festival. Police will target politically motivated crimes, sexualised and anti-LGBTQ+ violence, as well as robberies and pickpocketing. Officers will also conduct checks for illegal weapons during the festivities.
Hesse's Carnival is part of a broader German tradition, with 11 major cities and regions hosting large celebrations. Key locations include Cologne, DĂźsseldorf, and Mainz in the Rhineland, as well as Nurembergâhome to the oldest Carnival since 1397âand WĂźrzburg, which features 130 participating groups.
Revelers have been urged to show respect and watch out for one another. The goal is a peaceful and responsible festival atmosphere.
The increased police presence aims to ensure public safety. With record officer numbers and targeted checks, authorities are preparing for a high-visibility operation. The Carnival season will conclude on February 18 after six days of celebrations.
