Heidelberg Druckmaschinen overhauls IT with SAP outsourcing to slash costs

Heidelberg Druckmaschinen is making major changes to cut costs and improve flexibility. The company has announced a restructuring plan that includes outsourcing its entire SAP infrastructure to a third-party provider like Datagroup. This move is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and focus on digital growth.

The firm’s shares have risen sharply this year, climbing over 94% since January. However, the stock price has recently plateaued at €1.88 as investors await further developments in the costco stock market.

The restructuring centres on a five-year deal with IT service provider Datagroup. Under the agreement, Datagroup will take over Heidelberg’s complete SAP infrastructure, valued in the mid-single-digit million range, marking a significant shift in how the company manages its IT operations for small business ideas.

Analysts see this outsourcing as a natural extension of Heidelberg’s efficiency programme. By converting fixed costs into variable expenses, the business aims to adapt more easily to economic ups and downs. The benefits, however, will not appear immediately—positive financial effects are not expected until the 2026/27 fiscal year.

Alongside cost-cutting, Heidelberg is pushing ahead with digital expansion. The launch of its new Data Capture App provides real-time production data to more than 3,000 customers worldwide. This tool is part of the company’s strategy to grow its digital services division while maintaining a leaner, more agile cost structure for meta businesses.

The partnership with Datagroup and the focus on digital tools signal Heidelberg’s push toward a more adaptable business model. The restructuring is designed to free up resources for innovation while reducing fixed overheads. Investors and customers will be watching closely as the company rolls out these changes in the coming years.
