Snow causes delays and cancellations in public transport - Heavy snow paralyzes transport across Hesse’s hardest-hit regions
Heavy snowfall has brought widespread chaos to public transport across Hesse. Buses and regional trains face delays and cancellations, while trams continue to run mostly as planned. The severe weather has forced operators to prioritise safety over service.
The worst-hit areas include the Rhein-Main region around Frankfurt am Main, along with the districts of Fulda, Mainz-Kinzig, Hersfeld-Rotenburg, Offenbach, and Kassel. Snow-covered roads and poor visibility have made travel dangerous in these zones.
Bus services have been the hardest hit. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and Verkehrsbetriebe der RhönEnergie have suspended multiple routes entirely. Operators have cancelled journeys where safe travel cannot be guaranteed, leaving some passengers stranded. Regional rail services are also suffering delays, though trams remain largely unaffected. The RMV has warned of ongoing disruption as crews work to clear snow and restore normal operations.
Transport providers continue to monitor conditions, with further cancellations possible if the weather worsens. Passengers are advised to check for updates before travelling. The focus remains on ensuring the safety of both staff and commuters during the snowstorm.
