Hanover’s groundbreaking retrofit keeps residents at home during upgrades

A pioneering housing retrofit is underway in Hanover’s Bothfeld district. Vonovia has launched the first serial upgrade of a residential complex in Lower Saxony’s capital. The project aims to set new standards for energy-efficient living while residents remain in their homes.

The retrofit introduces an innovative solar facade and an advanced window heating system. These upgrades will bring the complex up to the KfW Efficiency House 40 standard, significantly cutting energy use.

Professionals can now see the work in progress firsthand. A free excursion, part of the Energiesprong on Tour programme, offers a guided tour of the site. Attendees will explore best practices, share lessons learned, and network with stakeholders involved in the project. Unlike traditional renovations, this approach keeps residents in place during construction. The event provides a chance to discuss how serial retrofitting balances efficiency with minimal disruption.

The Bothfeld project demonstrates how large-scale retrofits can modernise housing without displacing residents. The excursion allows industry experts to observe and discuss the process up close. Registration for the event remains open to interested professionals.
