Hanau's new river cruise dock to transform local tourism by 2027

Hanau is set to become a new stop on Europe's river cruise news. Swiss shipping company Scylla AG has announced plans to build a modern docking facility in the Kesselstadt district. The project aims to boost local tourism and strengthen the city's economy by 2027.

Scylla AG, a major player in European river cruises with over 45 ships, will develop the new pontoon along Hanau's Main riverfront. The facility will support two vessels at once, each up to 135 metres long. It will also feature shore power and freshwater connections to cut emissions and improve efficiency.

The docking station won't be limited to Scylla's fleet. Other cruise operators will have access, though no additional companies have yet confirmed regular stops. Hanau's mayor, Claus Kaminsky, believes the project will bring more visitors to the area. He expects growth in trade, hotels, and restaurants as day-trippers explore the city.

This development ties into Hanau's broader plans to transform its riverside into a tourist and business news centre. With completion set for the 2027 season, the facility will mark the city's first direct link to Europe's river cruise network.

Once operational, the new pontoon will offer Hanau a direct connection to the continent's cruise routes. Local businesses stand to benefit from increased foot traffic, while the city gains a fresh appeal for travellers. The project aligns with ongoing efforts to revitalise the Main riverfront as a key economic and leisure destination.
