Hanau's Fire Brigade Honors Young Artists in 50th Anniversary Contest

Hanau's Fire Brigade Association celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special painting competition for local schoolchildren. Third-grade pupils from nine primary schools took part, submitting artwork under the theme Paint the Fire Brigade as You See It!. The winners were announced at an award ceremony held at the city's central fire station.

The competition invited 17 third-grade classes to create artwork inspired by the fire service. Their pictures were later featured in a 2026 calendar, which was printed and shared with all participating schools.

The top prize—a trip to the German Firefighting Museum in Fulda—went to Class 3c of Gebeschu School. Second place was awarded to Class 3b of August-Gaul School, who won a ride on Hanau's emergency response fireboat along the Main River. Meanwhile, Class 3d of Anne Frank School secured third place, earning a guided tour of Hanau's fire station and a ride on the turntable ladder.

City Councilor Isabelle Hemsley, who also serves as Fire Department Commissioner, presented the awards. She was joined by Deputy Head of Department Sean Heesch and Wolfgang Müller, chairman of the Hanau Fire Brigade Association. The winning classes received additional prizes, including emergency vehicle rides and behind-the-scenes fire station tours.

The ceremony took place at Hanau's central fire station on August-Sunkel-Straße, marking the end of the association's anniversary celebrations.

The event highlighted the creativity of Hanau's young students while celebrating the fire brigade's long-standing service. The winning classes will now enjoy their prizes, from museum visits to fireboat rides, in the coming months. A calendar featuring the children's artwork will also serve as a lasting reminder of the competition.
