Hanau's Bold 2030 Childcare Plan Aims for Universal Early Education Access

Hanau has unveiled its Childcare Development Plan 2025–2030 to improve early childhood education across the city. The strategy focuses on securing places for all three- to six-year-olds and raising coverage for one- to three-year-olds to 37 percent by the end of the decade. The proposal has already won approval from the city council, with a final vote set for February 9, 2023.

The new plan responds to Hanau's rapid growth and changing demands in local neighbourhoods. Instead of simply expanding the number of daycare spots, the city will now prioritise upgrading existing facilities based on actual need. Key measures include mixing age groups within centres, coordinating placements citywide, and renovating outdated buildings.

Another focus is on staffing. The city aims to attract and keep skilled educators while maintaining high teaching standards. The shift comes as Hanau adapts to structural changes in early childhood services, ensuring resources align with evolving family requirements.

The City Assembly will make its final decision during a session starting at 5 p.m. on February 9. If approved, the plan will guide childcare policy through 2030.

The Childcare Development Plan 2025–2030 sets clear targets for Hanau's youngest residents. By 2030, the city expects every three- to six-year-old to have a guaranteed place, with nearly four in ten under-threes covered. The strategy also ensures existing centres remain well-maintained and staffed by qualified professionals.
