Hanau tests Flexi-Stone to repair damaged pavements in pilot project

Hanau is testing a new way to fix damaged pavements using a flexible jointing material called Flexi-Stone. The pilot project will take place on Hauptstraße in Großauheim, starting on Monday, March 30. If successful, the method could be used more widely across the city in future. The work will begin on Monday with the removal of the existing damaged pavement. Crews will then relay the paving stones and treat them with the special Flexi-Stone compound. The test section covers around 50 square metres, running between Bahnhofstraße and Hugo-Wenninger-Straße.

Hauptstraße will be fully closed to traffic from March 30 until the afternoon of April 2. Access to the construction site will remain open from both directions, with a signed detour via Bahnhofstraße, Auheimer Straße, Waldstraße, and Rochusstraße. Bus routes will also be temporarily rerouted during the closure. The city aims to improve the stability of the heavily used roadway without the need for expensive full-scale renovations. So far, Hanau is the only city in Germany to have successfully used Flexi-Stone for road maintenance.

The road is set to reopen by Thursday afternoon, once the work is complete. Officials hope the pilot will provide useful data for future pavement refurbishments. If the results are positive, the Flexi-Stone method may become a regular solution for similar projects in Hanau.
