Hanau school's bold new banners push for safer, cleaner student commutes
A primary school in Hanau has unveiled new banners along its fence to promote two community initiatives. The projects, backed by the school's parent council and Hanau Municipal Utilities, focus on child safety and environmental cleanliness. Both schemes aim to create a better daily journey for pupils travelling to and from school.
The first campaign, 'I Walk to School—Safe & Strong', encourages children to walk instead of being driven. It also reminds motorists to slow down and stay alert near the school. The second, 'Safe to School—Clean & Strong', pushes for tidier streets along the routes pupils use.
A parent designed the banners, while Hanau Municipal Utilities covered the printing costs. Martina Butz, the company's managing director, said the organisation was pleased to support Gebeschus School in making walking routes safer, cleaner, and more independent for children.
No details have been shared on how many other primary schools in Hanau run similar campaigns.

The banners now line the school's perimeter, serving as a visible reminder of the two initiatives. Parents, teachers, and local authorities hope the campaigns will lead to fewer cars near the school and cleaner surroundings. The partnership between the parent council and Hanau Municipal Utilities made the project possible.
