Hanau police hunt fake utility worker after bold jewellery heist
Police in Hanau have released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted in connection with a distraction theft. The incident took place on Hanauer LandstraĂe in GroĂauheim on April 9, 2025. Authorities are now asking the public for help in identifying the man.
The suspect posed as a utility worker, ringing the doorbell of an apartment and asking to check water taps. While inside, he stole gold jewellery worth several hundred euros. The victim only realised the theft after the man had left.
The offender is described as a male in his early 30s, around 1.75 metres tall, with short dark hair, a round face, and a slightly stocky build. He spoke fluent German without an accent and wore all-dark clothing, including gloves. Witnesses also noted he carried a walkie-talkie.
No sightings of the suspect during his escape have been reported. Police have confirmed that no further details about his movements or possible locations are currently available.
The Hanau Criminal Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be shared by calling 06181 100-123. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to track down the suspect.
