Hanau Mourns Loss of Dedicated Public Servant Ronald Battenhausen
The city of Hanau is in mourning following the passing of Ronald Battenhausen, a dedicated public servant and committed democrat, at the age of 80.
Battenhausen's political career spanned over four decades, beginning in 1977 as a member of the Steinheim district council. He went on to represent the SPD in the Hessian state parliament from 1991 to 1995 and again in 1998–99. His service to Hanau was continuous and impactful, serving on the city council from 1980 to 2016, including a term as its president from 1993 to 2001.
Battenhausen's commitment to democracy and social justice was recognized with multiple honors. He received the Hessian Certificate of Honor, the title of Stadtältester of Hanau, the city’s Golden Honorary Plaque, and the Willy Brandt Medal, the highest distinction of his party. Lord Mayor Claus Kaminsky praised him as a committed democrat who served Hanau with integrity and dedication. Beate Funck, Chair of Hanau’s City Council, described him as a convinced democrat, an engaged citizen, and a dependable advocate for the well-being of others.
Ronald Battenhausen's successor as chairman of the Hanau city council was Martin Fischer. The city extends its condolences to Battenhausen's family and loved ones, celebrating his legacy as a dedicated public servant and a champion of democracy.
