Hanau Expands ‘Green Up’ Initiative to Fight Climate Change for Two More Years

Hanau’s 'Green Up Hanau!' initiative has been extended for another two years. The program, which promotes urban greenery, now covers more areas and offers higher subsidies. Funding will support projects like green roofs, rainwater cisterns, and façade greening to improve the city’s climate change resilience.

The initiative first launched in 2023 with €520,000 from Hesse’s 'House and Courtyard Greening' program. It now includes Lamboy and parts of Hanau-Nordwest east of Bruchköbeler Landstraße. Mayor Claus Kaminsky has welcomed the expansion, calling it a positive step for the city.

The extended program aims to make Hanau greener and more climate-resistant. With higher subsidies and broader eligibility, more residents and associations can take part. The city expects these measures to reduce flooding, lower costs, and improve living conditions over time.
