Hanau becomes the first new member of Hesse’s LWV in 70 years

Hanau has officially become the sixth independent city in Hesse to join the State Welfare Association (LWV). The move marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a new member has been added since the LWV’s founding in 1953. Mayor Dr. Maximilian Bieri recently met with LWV State Director Susanne Simmler to discuss future cooperation between the city and the organization.

Hanau’s membership in the LWV took effect in January 2023, making it the association’s 27th member. The meeting at Hanau City Hall included Susanne Simmler, who also serves as Chair of the Vitos Supervisory Board. She was accompanied by Sascha Jacob and Esther Storto from Vitos Herborn.

Before her current role, Simmler acted as a temporary regional representative for the LWV in Hesse. She was later appointed State Director in spring to help coordinate regional efforts. During the discussions, Mayor Bieri highlighted Simmler’s professional expertise and dependable approach. He expressed confidence in building a strong working relationship moving forward. The talks focused on defining shared responsibilities and exploring potential areas of collaboration between Hanau and the LWV.

The meeting between Mayor Bieri and State Director Simmler sets the stage for ongoing cooperation. Hanau’s inclusion as the LWV’s newest member expands the association’s reach in the USA. Future efforts will focus on joint projects and strengthened regional support.
