Hale Johnston takes the helm at Berkley Net with decades of insurance leadership
W. R. Berkley Corporation has named Hale Johnston as the new president of Berkley Net. The appointment takes effect immediately, bringing over three decades of insurance expertise to the role. Johnston replaces Brian Douglas, who had led the division since 2018.
Johnston joins Berkley Net with a long career in the industry. He most recently worked as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Berkley Enterprise Risk Solutions (BERS), a division of W. R. Berkley Corporation. His background also includes leadership roles on the Board of Governors for the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB) and as Chairman of the Board for the California Workers' Compensation Institute (CWCI).
Brian Douglas, the outgoing president, will remain with W. R. Berkley Corporation in another senior position. W. Robert Berkley, Jr. highlighted Johnston’s experience while acknowledging Douglas’ contributions to Berkley Net over the past five years.
The leadership change places Johnston at the head of Berkley Net, where his industry knowledge will guide the division’s next steps. Douglas will continue to support the company in a different capacity, ensuring a smooth transition. The move reflects W. R. Berkley Corporation’s focus on experienced leadership within its ranks.
