Großkrotzenburg switches to Hanau’s CO₂-neutral district heating by 2026

Großkrotzenburg is set to receive a new, sustainable heat supply from Hanau’s modern combined heat and power (CHP) plant. The transition, approved by the local utility supervisory board, will take effect on March 1, 2026. Officials describe the move as a reliable and eco-friendly solution for the town’s future energy needs.

The decision to switch to Hanau’s district heating was confirmed on November 24, 2025, by Großkrotzenburg’s utility supervisory board. From March 1, 2026, Hanau Municipal Utilities (Stadtwerke Hanau) will provide CO₂-neutral heat to the town, replacing the previous supply structure. The new system will operate as a guaranteed capacity from Hanau’s facilities, ensuring stability.

The shift to Hanau’s CHP plant guarantees Großkrotzenburg a permanent, eco-friendly heat source. Residents will benefit from improved energy efficiency and compliance with legal standards. Further discussions will solidify pricing and operational arrangements in the near future.
