Green Zoo Wuppertal Unveils Nature-Inspired Playground for Kids
A new children's playground is set to open at Green Zoo Wuppertal on Wednesday, June 29. The climbing meadow, designed to mimic the movements of animals in Aralandia, was funded by a €43,000 donation from Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal. The bank marked its 200th anniversary with the gift, supporting a project built entirely from natural materials.
The playground forms part of a long-standing partnership between Green Zoo Wuppertal, Zoo-Verein Wuppertal e.V., and Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal. While no similar projects have emerged in the past five years, this collaboration has now delivered a unique play space for children.
The new area features balance beams, ropes, and nets, all crafted from black locust wood and custom-made structures. Zoo-Verein Wuppertal oversaw the design and construction, adding to its previous work on Aralandia—a €6.4 million exhibit completed in recent years. The opening coincides with the start of summer vacation, offering families a fresh outdoor activity. Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal's donation ensured the project's completion, celebrating two centuries of the bank's service to the community.
The playground will welcome its first visitors on June 29, providing a nature-inspired space for climbing and exploration. Built through local cooperation, the project reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the zoo's offerings for children. The use of durable, natural materials ensures the area will remain a lasting attraction for years to come.
