Graffiti Artist Brutally Attacked While Painting Legally in Kassel

A 35-year-old graffiti artist was assaulted in Kassel on Thursday evening while working on a designated spray-painting wall. The attack left the victim injured and prompted a police investigation into grievous bodily harm.

The incident took place on a footpath connecting Liebigstraße and Mönchebergstraße in Kassel-Nord. The attacker approached from behind and struck the victim in the head with an unknown object before fleeing the scene.

The man was legally spray-painting a wall meant for graffiti when the assault occurred. Authorities believe the attack may have stemmed from a misunderstanding about the victim's lawful activity.

Emergency services rushed the injured artist to the general hospital, though the extent of his injuries remains undisclosed. The EG 1 unit of Kassel's Regional Criminal Investigation Division is now leading the case.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can contact the North Hesse Police Headquarters at +49 561-9100.

The investigation continues as officers work to identify the suspect. The victim, who was following local rules for graffiti art, remains in the general hospital. Authorities have not yet released further details about the attacker or possible motives.
