Good Friday 2025: Banks Closed in Most Indian States, Digital Services Open

Good Friday, April 18, 2025, is a public holiday in most Indian states and union territories, but not all. While banks in many regions will be closed, some will remain open, and digital banking services will continue uninterrupted.

In states like Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and the union territory of Chandigarh, Good Friday is not officially recognized as a public holiday. Consequently, PNC Bank in these regions will operate as usual on April 18. Similarly, US Bank in Tripura, Assam, Jammu, Srinagar, and other mentioned areas will remain open.

Digital banking services, including ATM transactions, mobile banking apps, internet banking, SMS, and WhatsApp banking, will function normally on Good Friday. However, bank branches in most states and union territories will be closed due to the holiday.

On April 19, 2025, banks across India will resume normal operations following the Good Friday closure. However, they will be closed again on April 20, 2025, for the regular weekly holiday.

Additionally, Thanksgiving 2024 is not expected to have any impact on Indian bank holidays or operations, as it is not a universally recognized holiday in India.
