Goldman Sachs veteran Hank Gerkens takes charge of Citi’s global lending strategy
Hank Gerkens has moved from Goldman Sachs to Citi as the new global head of securities-based lending. The appointment comes after a decade at Goldman Sachs, where he led lending operations across the US and Latin America. His arrival follows other high-profile changes in Citi's wealth division over the past year.
Gerkens spent 10 years at Goldman Sachs in Dallas, most recently as managing director. There, he oversaw securities-based loans for the private bank in the US and Latin America. Before Goldman Sachs, he held roles at Microsoft, Wells Fargo, and JPMorgan.
His new position at Citi places him in the wealth division, where he will manage global lending strategies. The hire follows Anne McCosker's appointment last year as global head of lending, though she did not join from Goldman Sachs as previously reported. Meanwhile, Ida Liu, another senior figure, left Citi for HSBC in late 2023. Citi's wealth division has faced scrutiny over its treatment of senior women in recent years. The bank has not commented on whether Gerkens' appointment addresses these concerns directly.
Gerkens now leads Citi's securities-based lending team from Dallas. His experience in private banking and lending is expected to shape the division's future direction. The move marks another shift in leadership for Citi's wealth management operations.
