Gießen’s Zeiselwiese district faces major sewer upgrades starting November 11

Starting November 11, 2025, Mittelhessische Wasserbetriebe (MWB) will initiate a substantial sewer renovation project in Gießen's Zeiselwiese district. The project's goal is to ensure long-term drainage reliability in the area, which is situated between Aulweg, Ohlebergsweg, Leihgesterner Weg, and Wilhelmstraße.

The renovation will address critical sections of the sewer system, including a parallel wastewater sewer that will be repaired at multiple points. Approximately 90 meters of stormwater drains will be replaced using open-cut construction methods. MWB is collaborating closely with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority to minimize the project's environmental impact.

The project is a response to significant damage found in the roughly 60-year-old sewer infrastructure during routine inspections. This damage includes cracks and deformations that threaten the system's functionality. The construction work is expected to continue through the end of December.

MWB assures that the construction work will not disrupt road traffic, but pedestrians are advised to avoid entering the Zeiselwiese area during the renovation process. The project is a crucial step in maintaining Gießen's infrastructure and preventing future drainage issues in the Zeiselwiese district.
