Gießen’s Parents’ Council Launches Second Term to Reshape Local Childcare

Gießen's City Parents' Council for municipal daycare centers has kicked off its second term, aiming to boost its influence and visibility. Fridtjof Ilgner and Julia Schmiedchen continue as Chair and Deputy Chair respectively, while Karin Fensterer stepped down after completing her term.

The council, representing parents from eleven municipal daycare facilities, advocates for family-friendly, forward-looking childcare. It plans to invite various institutions and stakeholders, including parent representatives from independent daycare providers, to its meetings to foster direct dialogue and information exchange, tackling citywide issues collectively.

The new term also sees the appointment of a parents' advisory board. This board will invite parents, daycare management, local educational and social service representatives, and other relevant stakeholders to improve cooperation between parents and daycare facilities, with transparency and joint activities at its core.

With Fridtjof Ilgner and Julia Schmiedchen at the helm, Gießen's City Parents' Council looks set to strengthen its role in the new term. By engaging with the city administration and inviting diverse stakeholders, the council aims to enhance childcare services and parent-facility cooperation.
