Gießen’s new Nextbike station boosts green travel with upgrades and lower prices
A new Nextbike station has opened at the bustling intersection of Gnauthstraße and Goethestraße in Gießen. The location aims to encourage greener travel options in the area. Alongside this, the city’s bike-sharing scheme has received a major upgrade with 150 fresh bicycles replacing older models.
The station sits at a key traffic junction, making it easier for residents to switch to eco-friendly transport. Initially, illegal parking on sidewalks caused issues, so extra bike racks were installed to keep paths clear and improve pedestrian access.
Nextbike has also cut rental prices for cargo bikes in Gießen. Residents now pay €0.75 instead of €1.50 per 15 minutes. This change follows feedback from local users who wanted more affordable options for larger loads.
Looking ahead, the site is set to become a full mobility hub. Plans include adding car-sharing services alongside the existing bike-sharing scheme. The goal is to create a seamless transport network for the neighborhood.
The new station and updated fleet mark a step toward better urban mobility in Gießen. With lower rental costs and expanded services, the city hopes to see more people choosing sustainable ways to travel. Further improvements will roll out as the hub develops in the coming months.
