Gießen’s district heating expansion hits key milestone in Gnauthstraße

SWG (Stadtwerke Gießen) has made significant progress in the first phase of the district heating expansion in Gnauthstraße. The first watch area now has access to district heating, with the main connection to the network scheduled for early 2026.

SWG has been working diligently since mid-April, laying pipelines and connecting residential buildings. So far, 14 out of 22 buildings have been linked to the district heating system. The first phase, between Goethestraße and Lessingstraße, has been completed. Currently, work is underway between Lessingstraße and Stephanstraße, with all pipes up to house number 2 expected to be laid by the end of this year.

The project has faced some delays due to age-related weaknesses in water pipes and dependencies on trade contractors. However, despite these setbacks, heat supply is still on track to begin this year. During the installation, SWG has also renewed several water service connections. Gnauthstraße between Lessingstraße and Stephanstraße remains closed to traffic until the work is completed.

The expansion of the district heating system in Gnauthstraße continues, with the final connection to the network planned for early 2026. SWG has made substantial progress, connecting 14 buildings to the system so far. Although delays have occurred, the project remains on schedule to provide heat to the area this year.
