Gießen's 2026 local elections set for March 15 with extended ballot counting

Gießen city and district will hold local elections and foreign residents' advisory council elections on March 15, 2026. Voters will head to polling stations between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to cast their ballots in the upcoming municipal vote.

On election day, polling stations will remain open for ten hours. Once closed, officials will begin counting the polls, starting with direct party list selections only.

Preliminary results will be announced at Gießen Town Hall at 6 p.m. that evening. Those unable to attend in person can follow updates online via the 'VoteManager' portal at www.wahlen.votemanager.de.

Altered ballots, however, will take longer to process. These will be counted separately on the following Monday and Tuesday.

The election process will include both immediate and delayed vote tallies. While initial results appear on election night, final figures will account for all ballots in the days after. The exact number of seats to be distributed has not yet been confirmed.
