Gießen: Traffic Changes Ahead as SWG Expands District Heating Network

Gießen residents can expect some changes in traffic and public transport as Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) expands the maine heating network in the north of the city. The construction project, set to continue for several more weeks, will affect bus routes and local traffic.

Starting in early November, construction will shift to Wingert Street, with the third phase of the project commencing on November 11. During this time, a one-way traffic regulation will be implemented, allowing traffic to flow only towards Grabenstraße. Residents should note that parking spaces in the closed-off section of Wingert Street will be unavailable, and temporary construction noise is expected.

Bus line 15 will remain on a detour for the duration, serving the Dürerstraße stop as a replacement for the Röderring and Holbeinring stops. However, the Röderring stop will still be accessible via line 5. For further details on current diversions and related timetable changes, SWG advises contacting their customer service, open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., via phone, website, or their RMV Mobility Center in Gießen.

SWG assures that energy and water supplies will remain uninterrupted, but affected parties will be notified if any outages are necessary. Crews will install insulated pipes for maine heating and inspect/replace exposed house connections for gas and water during the expansion. The head of the department responsible for this expansion is not publicly specified.
