Gießen secures €200,000 to revitalize its struggling city centre
Gießen’s city centre is set for a boost after the local economic development agency secured €200,000 in state funding. The money will support five new projects aimed at breathing life into the area, from pop-up workshops to cooling solutions for hot summer days. Only 62 initiatives were chosen from 120 applications under Hesse’s 'Future City Center' programme.
The Gießen Economic Development Agency, led by Frank Hölscheidt, has won the funding to back innovative ideas. Over recent years, the agency has already brought in nearly €500,000 for similar initiatives in the city centre.
The €200,000 grant will now be split among the selected projects. Each aims to tackle different challenges, from sustainability and climate comfort to community events and business support. The goal is to create a more dynamic and resilient city centre for residents and visitors alike.
