Giessen invites public to shape the future of its Northern Inner City district
Giessen is launching a public discussion on the future of its Northern Inner City district. On March 21, 2026, residents, workers and visitors are invited to a kickoff event to share ideas and shape the area's development. The gathering will focus on creating a long-term plan for the neighbourhood's growth and improvement.
The event begins at 2 p.m. at Walltor 3 on Walltorstraße. Attendees will take part in two guided walking tours through the district, stopping at key locations to explore possibilities and gather feedback. Observations from these tours will later be presented for further discussion.
The aim is to develop an Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) for the area. This plan will outline priorities such as public spaces, social meeting points, transport links, and overall quality of life. Once finalised, the ISEK will help the city apply for funding under the 'Social Cohesion' urban development programme. No previous plans or specific projects for Giessener Nordstadt have been documented. This event marks the first step in shaping the district's future through community input.
The March 21 event will set the direction for Giessen's Northern Inner City. Ideas collected during the tours and discussions will form the basis of the ISEK. The finalised concept will guide funding applications and future development in the area.
