Gießen Hit-and-Run, Thefts: Police Arrest Two, Seek Info
Gießen and surrounding areas have seen a series of incidents this week. A hit-and-run at an intersection in Gießen was followed by suspected theft and attempted theft in the city and nearby Grünberg.
On Wednesday, a truck driver reversed into a BMW at the intersection Schiffenberger Weg / Steinberger Weg in Gießen around 10:00, then fled the scene. The perpetrators, described as 28-30 years old, about 180 cm tall, strikingly slim, with short light hair, and light complexion, were seen dressed in black, one carrying a dark backpack. Meanwhile, in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, a Volvo driver with suspected Danish license plates caused a collision while reversing and left the scene without providing details.
Around 00:15 on the same day, two unknown persons gained access to a training room in Gaffkystraße, taking a smartboard before fleeing on foot towards Frankfurter Straße. The suspects were also seen in Erich-Carl-Arabin-Straße and Otto-Zöckler-Straße, checking car doors for being locked. The next day, around 01:30, two suspicious persons attempted to open a camper van and a Skoda in Von-Bibra-Straße, Grünberg.
Police arrested two men, aged 37 and 33, during a search and took them to the station. Both men from the hit-and-run incident were released during the night due to lack of grounds for detention but are being investigated for attempted theft.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward. The arrested men are being investigated, and police are working to determine if the incidents are connected.
