Ghana’s Electricity and Water Bills to Surge in 2026 After Tariff Hikes

Electricity and water bills in Ghana will rise from January 1, 2026, following new tariff adjustments. The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced the increases after reviewing proposals from utility companies and consulting stakeholders. The changes aim to fund essential improvements while ensuring long-term affordability for consumers.

Electricity tariffs will climb by 9.86 percent for all customer groups. Water rates, meanwhile, will go up by 15.92 percent over the next five years, from 2026 to 2030. The adjustments will affect major providers, including the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).

The tariff increases will take effect on January 1, 2026, with further adjustments planned every quarter. The changes are designed to support infrastructure upgrades and maintain service reliability. Utility companies will remain under regulatory scrutiny to ensure fair pricing and operational standards.
