Germany’s THW Secures €30M to Modernize Emergency Response Sites by 2027

The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) has secured funding for major upgrades to its facilities across Germany. Two key sites in Viersen and Braunschweig will each receive up to €15 million for renovation and construction starting in 2027. The move comes as part of a broader push to modernise outdated THW infrastructure.

Many THW buildings have fallen into disrepair after decades of use. They no longer meet the needs of modern emergency response operations. To address this, the THW has launched a nationwide building programme with a standardised construction approach.

The investment will bring Viersen and Braunschweig’s THW sites up to modern standards. The standardised construction method aims to improve efficiency and response capabilities nationwide. Work is expected to start in 2027, with both locations receiving up to €15 million in funding.
