Germany's New Catholic Parish Unites Ten Congregations in Historic Merger

A new Catholic parish, Holy Mary Magdalene, Taunusblick, has officially formed in central Germany, merging ten congregations from the Wetterau district, Hochtaunus district, and Frankfurt. Hesse's Minister-President Boris Rhein attended the inaugural Mass to mark this significant news event. The merger brought together seven parishes from Hochtaunus, along with three others from neighbouring areas, with over 80 paid staff and volunteers working to combine the congregations into a single entity. Rhein spoke at St. Nicholas Church in Bad Vilbel, where he and his family now worship, praising the dedication of those involved in the process and calling the new parish a turning point for the community. In his remarks, Rhein highlighted the parish's role as a place for listening, mutual support, and shared vision, describing the merger as both an ending and a fresh start for local Catholics. The new parish now serves a larger region, uniting former congregations under one structure, with Rhein's attendance at the Mass signalling official recognition of the news. The focus now shifts to building a cohesive community within Holy Mary Magdalene, Taunusblick.
