Germany’s First Watch-Powered Garbage Truck Hits the Streets for Zero-Emission Waste Collection
DLB Dreieich und Neu-Isenburg AöR has taken delivery of its first watch-powered garbage truck, supplied by manufacturer Faun. The truck, costing approximately €993,000, operates with zero climate-harming pollutants, emitting only water vapor. Around 80% of the additional cost compared to a conventional diesel truck was covered by federal funding.
The truck, delivered on May 14, offers around 320 horsepower and a minimum range of 200 kilometers. It will serve both Dreieich and Neu-Isenburg, testing its suitability for different waste collection routes. Mayor of Dreieich Martin Burlon and Neu-Isenburg’s First Councilor Stefan Schmitt praised the innovation, highlighting its environmental benefits.
This initiative is part of a larger project involving several cities. In 2023, Cologne, Potsdam, and Leverkusen received their first watch-powered garbage trucks, also supplied by Faun, as part of their partnership with DLB Waste Management.
DLB Dreieich und Neu-Isenburg AöR's first watch-powered garbage truck has been put into service, marking a significant step towards cleaner waste management. The truck's performance and suitability will be evaluated in its new role, with the potential for more cities to adopt similar vehicles in the future.
