Germany Honors Sabine Assmann for Transforming Lives Through Street Angels
Sabine Assmann has received one of Germany’s highest honours for her tireless work supporting vulnerable people. On 19 November 2025, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (First Class). The recognition highlights her years of dedication to Hanau’s homeless and marginalised communities through the Street Angels organization. Assmann co-founded the nonprofit StrassenEngel e.V. (Street Angels) in 2015. Since then, her leadership has transformed support for those in need across the region. Under her guidance, the House of Street Angels opened near Hanau’s North Station, offering daily meals, shelter, and practical assistance. The Order of Merit marks another milestone in Assmann’s long record of service. Her work has created lasting structures that offer stability, care, and hope to Hanau’s most vulnerable residents. The award reflects both her personal commitment and the broader impact of the Street Angels’ growing network.
