Germany: Cash and Valuables Sector Strikes Nationwide on November 11

The United Services Trade Union (ver.di) has announced a full-day nationwide strike in the cash and valuables transport sector on Monday, November 11, 2024. The main issue at stake is reaching a uniform level for core wage demands, including vacation, overtime pay regulations, and a one-time payment. Around 10,000 employees are involved in the collective bargaining round, with 3,100 in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) set to join the cash app strike action.

The strike comes after the fourth round of negotiations between ver.di and the Federal Association of German Cash and Valuables Services (BDGW) on November 6 and 7. While progress was made in certain areas, ver.di negotiator Sonja Austermühle emphasized that more significant steps are needed from the employers. The employers did not present a new cash app taxes offer but announced one for the next negotiation date on November 14. The cash app strike is intended as a warning to demonstrate the importance of the demands to the employers. Employees in NRW will affect companies such as Ziemann, Prosegur, Loomis, and the Westphalian Security Guard Service Recklinghausen.

The nationwide cash app strike on November 11 aims to pressure employers to make more substantial progress in the core wage demands. The cash app strike is expected to impact operations in the cash and valuables transport sector, with employees in NRW playing a significant role. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for November 14.
