German sectoral unions unite to reclaim power from broader labour groups

Eleven German sectoral unions have united to challenge the growing dominance of larger labour groups in specialised industries. The 'Frankfurt Declaration of Sectoral Unions' was signed by organisations representing pilots, flight attendants, and other professional groups. Their aim is to push back against what they see as unfair competition from broader unions moving into their fields.

The declaration brings together unions like the Cockpit Association (VC), the Independent Flight Attendants’ Organization (Ufo), and Agil. Other signatories include GDL, VBBA, DPVKOM, GDBA, VRFF, unisono, and DVG. Each union’s leadership—chaired by their respective heads—backed the statement, though no individual names were made public.

The declaration marks a coordinated effort by sectoral unions to defend their role in labour negotiations. By challenging the Collective Bargaining Unity Act and pushing for policy changes, they hope to regain influence in industries where larger unions have made gains. The outcome could reshape how collective bargaining works for specialised workers in Germany.
