German livestock owners face January 15 deadline for annual animal counts

Livestock owners in Germany must submit their annual animal count by January 15. The requirement applies to all keepers of sheep, goats, and pigs. Many in the Fulda district, however, have yet to complete their declarations for this year.

The Hessian Association for Performance and Quality Testing in Animal Breeding (HVL) in Alsfeld oversees the submissions. Owners can report their data online through the HIT database. Those without login details should contact the HVL to obtain credentials.

Accurate reporting is essential for monitoring disease outbreaks, including African swine fever. Both current and former keepers of the animal kingdom must check their registration status and update it if needed. If closing an animal holding, owners are required to inform both the HVL and the Fulda District Veterinary Office.

Additional information is available on the HVL website under the relevant animal section. For direct enquiries, the Fulda District Veterinary Office can be reached at [email protected].

The deadline for submissions remains January 15. Missing the cutoff could affect disease control efforts across the region. Owners are urged to verify their records and submit their counts without delay.
