Charity Campaigns 'Bread for the World' and 'Adveniat' Launched - German Churches Unite for Climate Action in Advent Fundraising Drives

Germany’s two major churches have launched their annual Advent fundraising campaigns with a focus on environmental and climate protection. The Catholic Adveniat initiative began in Mainz Cathedral, while the Protestant Bread for the World appeal started with services across northern Germany. Both efforts aim to raise awareness and funds for pressing global issues during the Christmas season.

The Catholic Adveniat Christmas campaign officially started on November 30, 2025, the first Sunday of Advent. Bishop Peter Kohlgraf led the opening service at Mainz Cathedral, marking the beginning of the nationwide effort. Under the slogan Save Our World – The Future of the Amazon, the campaign will collect donations during Christmas services across Germany.

The two campaigns will run throughout Advent, gathering support for global aid and sustainability projects. Donations from Christmas services will directly fund initiatives addressing water scarcity, climate change, and social inequality. The efforts underscore the churches’ ongoing commitment to tackling worldwide crises during the festive season.
