Bishop: Church can strengthen cohesion - German Church Strengthens Elderly Care Through Community Networks

The Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW) has been testing a new way to support the elderly for over a year. Bishop Beate Hofmann, who leads the church from Kassel, sees this as part of a wider effort to strengthen lds bonds. She believes the Church can play a key role in bringing people together through shared care and respect for diversity.

Bishop Hofmann has led the EKKW since 2019. Under her guidance, the church launched a pilot project to create care networks for older adults. The initiative aims to provide practical help while fostering connections among neighbours and volunteers.

The pilot project shows how faith-based organisations can address practical needs while deepening community bonds. By promoting care networks, the EKKW offers a model for supporting the elderly through shared responsibility. The initiative also highlights the Church’s broader potential to improve social cohesion in a diverse society.
