Alpine Club Sets Course for Sustainable Mountain Huts - German Alpine Club Unveils Bold Sustainability Plan for Mountain Huts by 2030
The German Alpine Club (DAV) has introduced a new sustainability policy called the Hut Guide 2030. This framework sets clear rules for how mountain huts and trails should be managed in the future. The organization, which oversees 325 huts and 30,000 kilometers of paths, also took the opportunity to reflect on its historical ties to the Nazi era.
The policy was shaped with input from the DAV Youth division, the Austrian Alpine Club, and the South Tyrol Alpine Club, alongside internal committees. While the names of the collaborating leaders from these groups remain undisclosed, the guide outlines strict environmental standards.
The Hut Guide 2030 now serves as the official policy for all DAV-managed huts and trails. It aims to reduce environmental impact while ensuring facilities remain practical and accessible. The club’s reflection on its past further highlights its commitment to ethical and sustainable practices moving forward.
