A 62-year-old man was arrested on Monday evening (December 22) after allegedly threatening an 81-year-old woman with a gun. The incident, linked to an inheritance dispute, led to charges of suspected attempted aggravated extortion.
The confrontation took place during a heated argument over inheritance. The elderly woman activated her emergency call system, prompting police to intervene. Officers arrived quickly and placed the suspect in provisional custody.
Prosecutors then requested a pre-trial detention order on Tuesday (December 23). Later that afternoon, the man was due to appear before a magistrate. The hearing would decide whether he would remain in custody while the investigation continues. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name.
The case now moves to the courts, where a magistrate will rule on pre-trial detention. The suspect faces charges of attempted aggravated extortion following the armed confrontation. Police confirmed the woman was unharmed after the incident.
