Gasoline-like odor prompts evacuation at Wiesbaden’s Goethe School

An unfamiliar smell led to the evacuation of Goethe School in Wiesbaden’s Biebrich district on Wednesday. Staff cleared the building as a precaution after reports of an odour resembling gasoline. Firefighters quickly arrived to investigate the source.

The Wiesbaden fire department responded to the scene after the school on Goethestraße raised concerns. Initial checks in the gymnasium and nearby buildings showed no unusual readings. However, a specialised measurement vehicle later detected trace amounts of gasoline in the sewer system.

The fire department confirmed that residents faced no danger at any point during the incident. Investigations into the gasoline’s origin are ongoing, while cleanup efforts continue. The school and surrounding area have since returned to normal operations.
