Gas leak forces evacuations in Wiesbadenâs Dotzheim district
A strong gas odour led to the evacuation of several homes in Wiesbadenâs Dotzheim neighbourhood on November 21, 2025. The incident began at around 3:40 p.m. when residents reported a suspicious smell on Rotkäppchenweg. Emergency crews quickly arrived to assess the situation and secure the area.
Firefighters from Stations 1 and 2 were the first to respond after the gas odour was reported. Using specialised measuring devices, they confirmed the presence of gas and traced its source to an external line running along the facade of one building. Since the gas supply could not be shut off individually, excavation work became necessary to stop the leak.
The leak was eventually contained after excavation work allowed crews to halt the gas flow. Residents were permitted to return once the area was declared safe. ESWE Versorgung will now investigate the cause of the fault in the external gas line.
