Gauselmann Group Expands Presence in Lower Saxony with State Lottery License

The Gauselmann Group, a leading player in the German gaming and lottery market, has secured a significant win by being awarded the state lottery license in Lower Saxony. This move marks the strategic expansion of the company's presence in the region.

Starting from September 2024, the Gauselmann Group will operate ten casino locations in Lower Saxony, integrating the state-owned casinos with over 400 employees into their corporate network. The term for the operation of these locations is 15 years.

Paul Gauselmann, founder and CEO of the Gauselmann Group, expressed his enthusiasm about the license, while David Schnabel, CEO of Merkur Spielbanken, is confident that the new concept will be quickly implemented. The goal is to secure jobs and improve the attractiveness of the locations.

The Gauselmann Group has a proven track record in taking over and expanding gambling locations. This was evident in their acquisition of the North Rhine-Westphalian casinos in 2021 and the opening of a new location in Monheim. The success story achieved in North Rhine-Westphalia is seen as a potential for continuation with the Lower Saxony casinos.

With the acquisition, the Gauselmann Group aims to strengthen its portfolio by integrating the state lottery into its offerings, potentially increasing customer base and revenue streams. The company also plans to expand its product range beyond traditional gambling machines and casinos to include lottery products and digital gaming solutions.

Furthermore, the Gauselmann Group intends to leverage its expertise in acquisition integration and corporate restructuring to maximize operational synergies and market penetration in Lower Saxony.

The company attributes the granting of the state lottery license to its solid financial situation and well-conceived operating concept. Despite the expansion, the Gauselmann Group does not plan to add another location in Lower Saxony in the near future, unless a casino in Lower Saxony closes.

As of now, the Gauselmann Group operates 15 casino locations in the federal states of Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saxony-Anhalt. The acquisition in Lower Saxony is a strategic move to enhance the company's footprint in Germany’s regulated gaming and lottery market, aligning with its broader efforts to grow both physical and digital gaming operations within key German states.

The Gauselmann Group, with its extensive presence in Germany's casino-and-gambling sector, may soon expand its online casinos in Germany to include locations in Lower Saxony, given their successful integration of state-owned casinos. This growth may broaden their casino-games offerings and contribute to the casino-culture in the region.
