Winter Shuts Down Waste Collection in City and District of Fulda - Fulda’s waste crisis deepens as snow and strikes halt collections indefinitely

Waste collection in Fulda and the surrounding region remains on hold due to sudden winter weather. Strikes by waste management workers have added to the disruption, leaving no confirmed date for services to restart. Residents now face delays that could stretch well beyond this week.

The suspension began after heavy snow and icy roads made collections unsafe. All scheduled pickups—including residual waste, organic waste, paper, packaging, and bulky items—have been halted. Officials warn that even if conditions improve, ongoing strikes may push back any resumption.

Waste companies have stated they will restart services as soon as roads are passable and labour disputes are resolved. However, the district administration expects delays to last through the week and possibly longer. No firm date has been set for Monday, December 13, despite earlier hopes for a return to normal operations.

Residents should prepare for extended disruptions to waste services. The combination of severe weather and industrial action means collections will not resume until both issues are addressed. Updates on a new schedule will be announced once conditions allow.
