Fulda police crack down on reckless drivers near Sturmius School

A joint traffic operation took place near Sturmius School in Fulda on February 24 to improve road safety for children. Local police and the regional traffic enforcement unit monitored the area around Main Street, where dangerous driving incidents have raised concerns. The checks aimed to ensure pupils could travel to and from school without risk.

During the operation, officers recorded several violations. Two drivers ran red lights, while five others sped through intersections as the signals turned yellow. One motorist was caught using a mobile phone, and another failed to wear a seatbelt.

Children in the area have reported frequent issues with traffic safety. Many say vehicles ignore red lights or refuse to stop at pedestrian crossings, leaving them vulnerable. Their small size makes them harder for drivers to spot, and young pupils often struggle to judge hazards correctly.

Authorities have stressed the importance of following traffic rules to protect children. All offenders from the operation now face administrative penalties. Further checks around schools will continue as part of ongoing efforts to reduce risks.

The operation highlights the need for greater caution near schools. Drivers are reminded to stay alert, obey speed limits, and yield to pedestrians—especially children. Police will maintain increased patrols to prevent accidents and ensure safer journeys for pupils.
