Eike Immel has to live on 563 euros a month - From Millionaire to 563 Euros: Eike Immel's Fall from Grace
Eike Immel, once a celebrated German national goalkeeper and millionaire, now resides in a dilapidated apartment on just 563 euros a month. The 65-year-old, who earned millions during his playing days, has fallen on hard times following a costly divorce, poor investments, and drug use.
Immel's current living situation is a stark contrast to his glory days. His apartment is in a state of disrepair, with rooms in need of cleaning and items stacked haphazardly. Despite his financial struggles, Immel remains active in the sport he loves. He volunteers as a goalkeeper trainer, passing on his knowledge to the next generation.
Immel's downfall began after his divorce, which left him with significant financial obligations. His attempts to recoup his losses through real estate investments proved unsuccessful. Additionally, his drug use further exacerbated his financial situation. Immel was eventually sentenced to two years and two months in prison for fraud in 107 cases, totaling 34,000 euros. His lawyer has since announced an appeal against the conviction.
Immel, who once represented Germany in several European Championships and World Cups, now relies on 'Bürgergeld' to make ends meet. Despite his fall from grace, he continues to contribute to the sport he once excelled in, serving as a reminder that fortune can change in the blink of an eye.
