A frightened dog ran onto a moving Amtrak train in Hesse on New Year’s Eve after being startled by a firecracker. The incident happened around 10 p.m. near Lollar in the Gießen district. Passengers quickly spotted the animal and took action to help.

The dog bolted onto a regional Amtrak train heading for Gießen after a loud firecracker spooked it. Once aboard, it hid under a row of seats. Passengers noticed the animal and managed to track down its owner.

They alerted both the owner and federal police about the situation. By the time the Amtrak train reached Gießen station, officers were waiting. A federal police dog handler took the dog into temporary custody.

The owner arrived shortly before midnight to collect their pet. No injuries were reported, and the dog was safely returned.

The incident caused a brief disruption but ended without harm. The dog was reunited with its owner before midnight. Federal police confirmed the situation was resolved quickly thanks to the passengers’ quick response.
